An Open Letter to Terry Don Phillips

Dear TDP,
What the hell is going on? Last thursday, for the second time this year, our beloved Clemson football team had a chance to shine on national TV but instead came out and crapped all over the football field. Our offense looked so pathetic that watching our guys try to score was like watching a midget try to hump a doorknob. Yet... nothing has been done or even said about the situation by the powers that be.
This same type of meltdown has gone on for the last 9 and a half years, and this year it has culminated in the most miserable experience for a Clemson football follower since the 3-8 season. We've dropped two ACC games in a row only to have our head football coach come out and throw his own starting quarterback under the bus to save his own ass when it is clearly evident that you could have John Elway back there throwing screen passes and it wouldn't make a bit of difference.
So where are you? Why aren't you doing your job? The Clemson nation continues to suffer and we've heard nothing from you about the situation. Are you content to simply sit back and let Tommy Bowden run this program into the ground until the end of the year, just so you can save some money on his buyout contract? We're already the laughing stock of ESPN, how much lower do you want us to go? I'll tell you what, since it was your brilliant idea to give this schyster a contract extension last year after having accomplished absolutely nothing, then how about we dock your pay until you've made up for it?
Terry, do your job. We desperately need a solution to this downward spiral.

He compiled a 96-29-4 (.760) record at Clemson, including a 6-2 bowl record. He was the third winningest coach in the country on a percentage basis after the '89 season. Ford also coached 21 All-Americans and 41 players who went on to play in the NFL, during his 11 seasons in Tigertown.
In 1981, Ford helped Clemson reach the summit of college football by winning the National Championship, the first by any Clemson team. His Tigers, who were unranked in the preseason, downed three top-10 teams during the course of the 12-0 season that concluded with a 22-15 victory over Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. Ford, national Coach of the Year in '81, is still the youngest coach to win a national championship on the gridiron. He also led Clemson to a 30-2-2 record between 1981-1983, best in the nation. Immediately following the 1982 season Clemson was placed on probation by the NCAA for recruiting violations.
Clemson won three straight ACC titles under his guidance between 1986 and 1988. In 1989, Clemson registered a 10-2 season and top-12 national ranking for the fourth straight season. Ford, who always wore a block "C" cap and chewed tobacco on the sideline, closed his career with a 27-7 win over West Virginia (and their All-America quarterback Major Harris) in the Gator Bowl. In the decade of the 1980s, Clemson had the nation's fifth-highest winning percentage.
While at Clemson, Ford defeated many College Football Hall of Fame coaches. These include Joe Paterno, Tom Osborne, Barry Switzer, Bobby Bowden, Vince Dooley, and Woody Hayes.

POST A "FIRE BOWDEN" SIGN OUTSIDE YOUR PARKING AREA AT CLEMSON UNTIL THEY FIRE TOMMY. DO NOT SPEND ANY MONEY IN CLEMSON-NO ICE, BEER, FOOD, GAS, ETC. DO NOT GO TO THE ESSO CLUB. LET THESE IDIOTS KNOW WHO REALLY CONTROLS THE PURSE STRINGS! IF YOUR CHILD ATTENDS CLEMSON, HAVE THEM THREATEN TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER COLLEGE IN THE SPRING.
