Bowen Bytes - Day after Citadel

Upon Further Review

KORN REPORT! The process of throwing Cullen Harper under the bus has begun:

Q. Cullen's throws downfield don't seem to have much zip. Receivers seem to be waiting. It may come back to bite you.

A. "I just watched one throw down the field. If he doesn't under-throw C.J., it's a touchdown. Another one down the middle would have been a touchdown. There are a lot of guys who have to play better. He'd be one of them."
Tommy is mentally preparing his flock for the replacement of Cullen Harper with Willy Korn. Tommy knows he's on the hot seat and the Clemson fans are pissed off. He's got to throw somebody under the bus or he might lose his job. First it was Willy Simmons, then it was a different coordinator each year, now it's Cullen Harper. Mark my words, Harper will not finish out the year as our starter. Hell he might not even finish out the NC State game.

Q. You won and you dropped one spot in the coaches poll.

A. "Yeah, until the end of the year it's not real important. That No. 9 ranking wasn't very important to us. I doubt this one will be either. We need to win a lot more games until we get real interested in that. I hope our players aren't paying that much attention to it right now. We did that earlier. It didn't work."
OBVIOUSLY!

Q. Do you feel like you'll need a couple more wins to restore your reputation after the loss in the season-opener?

A. "We have to win more games. We have to win the next one. That will take care of itself. Most people remember your last game. The further away you get from a loss like that, the less they remember it. Georgia got beat by Tennessee 35-7, and they forgot about that pretty quick down in Athens. I would think if we could continue to improve, they'll forget about that one, just like Virginia Tech forgot about LSU and Southern Cal forgot about Stanford. The most important thing is to win. The only way to win is to get better. Right now we're a long ways away from being where we need to be."
Tommy Bowden missed his calling. He really knows his audience perfectly. He should be in PR... or better yet, he should run political campaigns. The man is a brilliant strategist when it comes to public opinion. Too bad he sucks at football.

Willie Simmons was horrible as a starter. As the 2nd string guy, he did great. As a starter, he couldn't complete a pass. Everything was 4 feet over the receiver's head.

I don't think TB will pull Cullen . . . unless he gets injured.

We shall see.

Willie was the man. He was the only reason we were even in any of the games close games we were in. Just look at UGA with Willie, UGA without willie... a 3 point nail-biter vs a 30 point shutout. He did not "constantly overthrow" nor did he "put the ball on the ground" like the Bowden Apologists always say. Just look at how bad Whitehurst was when he went in... the problem wasn't Willie, it was a shitty team as a whole because of a shitty coach.

You're exactly right about TB pulling Harper. His days are numbered. I would go so far as to say that Korn will get the start against SC State and TB will keep him as the starter for the remainder of the year.
I've noticed that each QB we have gets worse in their second year of playing time. Coincidence?

@ Uttles:

You are either really stupid, or you have a really bad memory. Whatever the case, a lesson is forthcoming.

Mouth breather said: "Just look at how bad Whitehurst was when he went in."

I present exhibit A: Charlie Whitehurst's stats from "when he went in".

Ball State: 4-4
Virginia: 7-7

That's 11-11 to start your career, folks.

Oh, how about in his first meaningful action as a first teamer?

Clemson school record for passing yards. 420, and 4 touchdowns to lead Clemson to a comeback win over Duke. Followed by four more touchdowns with no INT against UNC. Followed there a couple games later by 287 yards and an all-important rushing TD against SCU.

You're stupid, that's all.

Coby, there are liars, damned liars, and worst of all: statisticians.

You're really going to quote his stats while playing mop up duty? Really?

Oh and then you brag about his performance vs Duke? Really?

30-0 against UGA. 30 to fucking nothing at HOME.

The sad thing is, Charlie Whitehurst is a good quarterback and a great talent. He could have been really great at Clemson if he would have had to earn his position. Instead, he got worse as his career advanced because he was handed everything on a silver platter.

Didn't we get rid of Bobby Robinson when he sucked?

Didn't we get rid of Hatfield and West when they sucked?

Now we must unite and focus on Tommy and Terry Don.

The Administration is the problem. They keep Bowden and give him a long term contract and more money for mediocrity.

If other schools demand excellence we can to.

Clemson is not a coach or administration. These people come and go. Clemson is the Alum and Boosters.
