Wait 'til next year?

After claiming 4 moral victories in the 2007 season (I mean hey, we only lost by 1 play,) many tiger fans and even Tommy Bowden himself could be heard echoing cries of "wait 'til next year!' which traditionally was something you would only hear coming from the South Carolina Gamecocks, but is now a Tiger staple. However, with X amount of starters coming back and Spence having another year under his belt, 2008 was looking like the year that Tommy might actually take us to 10 wins. Well, that pipe dream just took a big nose dive:

James Davis will not return for 2008 season.

So long, Mr. Davis, we salute you.

Who can blame him? What did he get in our biggest games of the year, 6 carries per game? It will be fun to watch him in an offense that is led by a coach that knows what the hell he's doing.

JD was the only leader on this team. If he had an OLine that was worth squat, he would have doubled his output and we wouldn't have to witness countless bubble-screens on 1st and goal at the 2yard line.

How is it the O-line's fault when Davis isn't allowed on the field by the coaches?

I'm giving spence more credit than he deserves, you got me.
however, everyone agrees that the OLine was pretty piss poor at opening lanes and giving both RBs any space to run.
We all can agree that spence sucks balls.

I understand where you're coming from but as an ex-offensive lineman let me just say that "everyone" blames the OL because it's the easiest, most pseudo-intelligent thing you can say when things go wrong. If you say "boy the OL wasn't blocking" then it looks like you know what you're talking about. In reality, CJ spiller was hitting the 4 hole then dancing back to the 2 hole then running around to the 8 hole when the play was designed for the 5 hole. You could have Orlando Pace cloned 5 times playing OL for you and that play would still result in a loss.

I'm not saying you are pseudo-intelligent, I just am saying that maybe you heard some so called expert talk about the O-line play and he gave you the wrong idea, that's all.

certainly you are smarter than I, however, the OLine was not able to create holes. Davis ran hard, if not harder than he had last year, and this set of guys didn't seem to know what the hell was going on.
I never understood the stance they had and they got the snot beaten out of them almost each "big" game (GT, VT, BC, AU). The scheme was either bad or the guys couldn't block for beans.
However, you're right that Spiller made horrible decisions that ended up in a negative situation causing spence to rely more on the passing.
That said, I believe JD was squandered because the offense is designed around the pass, rather than the run.

hey now, tommy bowden was just one argument away from keeping him
